Memphis blanks UCF, 1-0
UCF's Brian Adkins pitched the best game of his career.
Unfortunately for the Knights, Memphis starter Chaise Joiner pitched a little bit better. His complete game, 1-0 shutout of UCF gave the Tigers Sunday's decisive win to capture the weekend series.
In one of the best pitching duels in Jay Bergman Field history, both starters went the full nine innings.
"First of all, give a lot of credit to their pitcher," UCF coach Terry Rooney said. "Their pitcher did an outstanding job and threw a great game against us. Give credit also to Brian Adkins. He threw a terrific game. One of the gutsiest performances that we have had all year. Brian pitched fantastic. They were just a little bit better than us. Listen, (Joiner) made big pitches when he needed them. We had a couple opportunities and didn't take advantage."
