March 2, 2013Playing his final home game, Keith Clanton put forth one of the most memorable performances of his outstanding four-year career with a 29-point output against No. 17 Memphis. UCF battled from the start to finish but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 76-67.
UCF played with a lead for much of the first half, but Memphis rallied in the final minutes to take a 34-29 lead into the locker room. The Knights tied the game at 38 on a big Clanton dunk with 15:48 left in the game, but couldn't get the big stops needed to take the lead. It was just a six-point deficit at the 3:36 mark, but the Knights could never get it any closer.
Calvin Newell scored 13 points with five assists. Isaiah Sykes, plagued by foul trouble, shot 4-of-16 for 10 points.
Memphis had a pair of players - Joe Jackson and Chris Crawford - who scored 19.
UCF was playing without Tristan Spurlock, who missed the game due to injury.
With two games left to play, UCF (19-10, 8-6) would like to win out to ensure a 20-win season and also a winning mark in C-USA. The Knights go on the road to play UAB on Wednesday before concluding the season at Southern Miss on Saturday.
