March 6, 2013UCF's inaugural Big East football schedule will feature several nationally televised contests, including a pair of weeknight games set for exclusive primetime coverage on ESPN.
The slate is highlighted by a Thursday, Nov. 21 home game against Rutgers that will air on ESPN College Football Primetime and a Friday, Oct. 18 road date against a Louisville team that could enter the season in the top 10. That game will air on ESPN or ESPN 2.
The renewal of the UCF-USF rivalry - a home game - is set for Black Friday, Nov. 29 with coverage from either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The non-conference schedule, which had already been finalized, covers the first five weeks of the season: UCF opens at home on Thursday, Aug. 29 against Akron and the following Saturday travels to FIU (Sept. 7). The Knights visit Penn State on Sept. 14, has a bye date on Sept. 21 and then hosts South Carolina on Sept. 28.
The Penn State game has been rumored for a noon start on ESPN2. The South Carolina game will likely also be televised by the ESPN family of networks, perhaps on ESPNU.
UCF's first Big East game on Oct. 5 will be against a familiar foe: Memphis. The Knights and Tigers will tangle for the second consecutive year in Memphis and UCF will look for their ninth straight win in the series.
The Knights have a bye on Oct. 12 before traveling to Louisville on Friday, Oct. 18. The Cardinals - likely the league's preseason favorite - will have a Heisman Trophy hopeful in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
UCF returns home the following Saturday to host Connecticut, then has another bye on Nov. 2.
Houston returns to Bright House Networks Stadium on Nov. 9 and that has been slated for homecoming weekend.
UCF then hits the road again to face Temple in Philadelphia on Nov. 16.
Then it's a pair of back-to-back nationally-televised home games: Thursday, Nov. 21 vs. Rutgers and the Black Friday, Nov. 29 battle with the Bulls of South Florida.
UCF concludes the regular season on Dec. 7 in Dallas against SMU.
