September 22, 2013Here's a look at how UCF's Class of 2014 commitments fared during last Friday's high school football action.
RB C.J. Jones rushed for more than 268 yards and three touchdowns as Port Orange (Fla.) Atlantic (1-2) routed Jones, 40-13.
Jones is certainly piling up the yardage as he rushed 209 and 144 yards respectively in his first two games.
DB Michael Rogers is making a big name for himself in the early part of this season and Friday was no exception even though Smyrna (Ga.) Campbell (2-2) lost a 23-20 decision to South Cobb. Playing running back, he rushed for 135 yards on 21 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Rogers also had a 75-yard kickoff return.
Last week, video highlights of Rogers' first three games were uploaded to Hudl.
"He's even better than the highlight, Campbell coach Harris Rainbow tweeted. "UCF getting a great one."
Plant City DE Sedrick King had a game-saving interception with 59 seconds left to seal the 14-13 win over Durant. The Raiders are now 3-0.
King's teammate, walk-on commit Landon Galloway, has made the move to quarterback this season and last week was the subject of a feature in the Tampa Bay Times. He finished Friday's game with 165 passing yards, but three turnovers (two interceptions and a fumble).
"(Galloway) forced some things, but when we needed a first down, he got it for us." Plant City coach Wayne Ward told the Tampa Bay Times.
Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison DE Joey Connors had a 39-yard pick-6 in their 24-9 win at Pebblebrook. The Hoyas are 3-1 and 2-0 in their district.
"What is great is that Joey Connors always seems to come up with something," Harrison coach Matt Dickmann told the Marietta Daily Journal.
QB Chris Davis (who will be a WR at UCF) "amassed 152 yards and two TDs rushing, and he threw for 68 yards" as Oviedo (4-0) beat crosstown rival Hagerty, 42-14. Davis had a 34-yard touchdown run.
Maurice Hall had a 91-yard kick return that went for a touchdown in St. Petersburg (Fla.) Gibbs' 24-14 loss to Lakewood. The Gladiators have struggled to an 0-4 start.
Valdosta (Ga.) ATH Mac Loudermilk tweeted that they are now 4-0 following their 41-14 win vs. Newton. Loudermilk plays several different positions, including quarterback, tight end and punter.
OL Chavis Dickey and Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County are 2-2 following a 17-14 win against Macon County.
OL Wyatt Miller and Douglas (Ga.) Coffee (4-0) extend their unbeaten streak with an 18-14 win against Mundy's Mill.
OL Luke Palmer and Wauchula (Fla.) Hardee (2-1) were in a bye week and return to action next Friday against Frostproof.
WR Tre'Quan Smith and Delray Beach (Fla.) Village Academy (1-3) knocked off Orangewood Christian, 30-10.
DE A.J. Wooten and Nashville (Ga.) Berrien dropped to 3-1 following a 41-34 loss to Turner County.
