Bortles going pro
Blake Bortles will skip his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.UCF quarterback
Paul Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel was the first to report the news Sunday night and sources close to the program later confirmed the decision. An official announcement is expected Monday.
On Friday, Bortles and his family met with head coach George O'Leary to talk about his future. The Oviedo native was given a first-round grade by the NFL Draft advisory board and several analysts are projecting him to be a top-10 pick.
The highest-drafted player in UCF history is quarterback Daunte Culpepper who was taken by the Minnesota Vikings with the 11th overall pick in the 1999 draft.
Bortles led the Knights to their best season in school history, capping off their 12-1 season with a 52-42 victory against No. 6 Baylor in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The game's Most Outstanding Offensive Player, Bortles passed for 301 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards and another score.
On the season, Bortles completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,581 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He rushed for 272 yards and six touchdowns.
