Lively lights up UConn

Ben Lively dominated with seven strong innings on the mound to lead UCF to a 7-3 victory against UConn in their opening matchup of the WaWa Weekend Classic.

UConn slugger L.J. Mazzilli crushed a solo home run over the left field wall in the fourth inning, but besides that the Huskies had no answer as Lively gave up just three total hits and struck out six.

The Knights (3-2) did the majority of their scoring damage in the fifth inning with six runs crossing the plate. Ryan Breen, Erik Hempe, James Vasquez and Parker Webster all recorded RBIs. Hempe, who has had a hit in every game this season, went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI.

UCF plays the nightcap again on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. game against Texas Tech.
