Davis bonds with UCF family

Chris Davis feels like he's already part of the team.

The Oviedo (Fla.) wide receiver and longtime UCF commitment took his official visit this past weekend and now he's counting the days until he can officially enroll.

"It was real fun," Davis said. "It was a good time. I got to meet some of the players like Joey Grant, J.J. Worton, Rannell Hall and Will Stanback. It was the first time I really got to meet the team. I had met Joey at the 7-on-7 they had at UCF. Blake Bortles had introduced me to him then, so he was a familiar face.

"That was really best part of the trip for me. Those guys are going to be my new family. It was just really fun, a real good experience."

Among the 10 official visitors, five had previously committed and three more joined the group by Sunday.

"I hung out with a lot of the recruits, like Jordan Franks and Tre'Quan Smith," Davis said. "It was good to catch up with some of those guys again, like Tre'Quan. I talk to him on Twitter sometimes."

The group gathered for a Friday night dinner at Bright House Networks Stadium before going out with their hosts.

"It was a big buffet with steak, chicken and pasta," Davis said.

Saturday's schedule included the campus and facility tour and a visit to the UCF basketball game. One of the highlights came later in the afternoon when they got to try on UCF jerseys.

"We got to go into the locker room and take pictures with the Fiesta Bowl trophy and the American Athletic Conference championship trophy," Davis said. "That was real cool."

At the time of his commitment, Davis said the coaches mentioned the possibility of him running the "Wild Knight" package as he does have plenty of experience at quarterback. He said they didn't talk too much about the plans for next season, but did briefly go over a few things.

"They just talked about some of their formations, what they mean and what all the positions are, stuff like that," Davis said.

He hopes to see the field right away.

"I want to start as a true freshman," Davis said. "Team wise, I just want to help the team win championships. That's the main goal right now."

UConn, FIU, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Purdue and Rutgers were among the other schools that offered, but UCF was always the one he wanted. Davis, who has been a Knights fan since middle school, loved every minute of UCF's recent 52-42 win against Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl.

"I was real excited," Davis said. "I knew they could do it. Afterward everybody was telling me I made the right decision, but I already knew I did. They were just proving what I was saying was true."
