Corso: UCF should 'wax' Penn State

Lee Corso is very bullish on a UCF victory against Penn State in Saturday's Croke Park Classic in Dublin, Ireland.

Appearing on the Friday edition of Tuck and O'Neill, the ESPN Gameday analyst and Orlando-area resident says the Knights, who beat the Nittany Lions on the road last season, should remain the superior team.

"UCF is a good football team," Corso said. "I would not be surprised if they didn't wax Penn State out there. Their defense is as good as Penn State is going to see all year. They've got good athletes. Penn State, I don't care what anybody says, it's not a great way to open the season flying all the way across the world, playing a game and getting back, and playing UCF. I tell you what, UCF should wax 'em good."

The UCF-Penn State series was initially booked as a home-and-home with the Knights winning the 2013 game in State College, 34-31.

"I've been on the record saying I was not for this game," Corso said. "If I was a UCF fan, I'd be mad they wouldn't bring Penn State here in Orlando to play us. Bring them to Orlando, sell more season tickets and beat the crap out of them in Bright House Networks Stadium. Why take it halfway across the world?"

While the 2014 game was originally supposed to be played in Orlando, there was a mutual understanding to make an attempt to move it to Ireland. Otherwise, the Nittany Lions would buy their way out of the return game. Host Jerry O'Neill, UCF's longtime radio sideline reporter, explained the circumstances after Corso he made that comment.

"Then make 'em back out and show them what kind of chickens they are," Corso said. "You sign the home-and-home because you're going to play the home-and-home. If they're gonna back out, they can really pay."

Corso also touched on the need for UCF to get a call up from one of the Power Five leagues. Though nothing appears imminent, University of Oklahoma President David Boren recently said he'd like to see the 10-member Big 12 eventually expand back to 12 members. UCF, along with schools such as BYU and Cincinnati, could be possible candidates.

"I still think UCF is gonna make a move," Corso said. "Pay whatever they've got to pay 'em. Get in the Big 12. If they don't get in the Big 12, their football program is gonna lag."

The "Tuck & O'Neill Show" airs weekdays from 3-6 p.m on 1080 AM in Orlando. O'Neill is entering his 20th year on the UCF broadcast team as sideline reporter.
