Big DE has 'awesome' visit to UCF

A towering 6-foot-8, 260-pound defensive end visited UCF on Tuesday.

Luke Tenuta of Crozet (Va.) Western Albemarle spent several hours on campus touring facilities and meeting with coaches. The Knights offered in April, joining an offer list that currently includes Colorado State, Old Dominion, Buffalo, East Carolina, Cincinnati and West Virginia.

"It was a really awesome place," Tenuta said. "My mom and I stayed there for a while and saw everything, the stadium and campus. It was awesome talking to the coaches."

What stood out the most?

"I really liked the stadium," Tenuta said. "I also really liked the athletic village where the players stay. The facilities are very nice, like the indoor. Good weight room too."

He spent the most time with defensive line coach Mike Dawson and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander.

"We talked about how I'd fit into their 3-4 defense which I think is really a great system for me for how tall I am," Tenuta said. "They showed me the basics about their defense and just talked about UCF and where everything is headed. The program is going in a great direction."

He met with head coach Scott Frost before departing.

"He answered all my questions, talked about the university and where they're going," Tenuta said. "He's a really great guy. We talked about where I am in the recruiting process, stuff like that."

Most schools including UCF see Tenuta as a defensive end, though East Carolina and West Virginia - both of which he visited in the past week - are recruting him to play offensive tackle. He also has an offer from Cincinnati where his father, Jon Tenuta, is safeties coach as part of the new Bearcats staff under Luke Fickell.

"I'm think I'm closer to having a list soon," Tenuta said when asked about favorites. "I'm going to take it slow and look at all the schools. I just want to find a good school where I can see myself fitting in and where I can call home."

Tenuta says he doesn't want to rush into a decision, but would like to make a make a commitment before the end of the summer.
