UCF has landed Oregon defensive line transfer Canton Kaumatule.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pound Honolulu native arrived in Orlando late this week and will officially begin classes on Monday. He will sit out this upcoming season due to NCAA rules with two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in 2018.

A former Rivals100 recruit, Kaumatule was one of the most highly-anticipated signees of the Mark Helfrich era but saw his early career hampered by injuries. Due to multiple concussions, Kaumatule initially announced his retirement from the sport last November with the intent of staying on scholarship via a medical hardship.

After further evaluation by doctors this past spring, Kaumatule was cleared to play again and reached out to his former Oregon coaches now at UCF, notably head coach Scott Frost and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander.

Kaumatule will be a welcome addition to a defensive line unit that graduates Jamiyus Pittman and Tony Guerad after the season.
