Knights add big corner to 2018 class

Another day, another commit for UCF.

Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson cornerback Avery Thornton announced on Friday, becoming the Knights' third pledge in the last week following tight end Isaiah Bellamy on Wednesday and offensive lineman Devin Jordan on Sunday.

Thornton, who has above-average height for a corner at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, picked up his UCF offer in mid-May. Illinois offered at around the same time, while USF offered last week.

A former quarterback earlier in his high school career, Thornton has focused on cornerback and wide receiver as of late and saw recruiting interest for both spots. UCF likes him on defense.

Thornton is also a top track athlete at Boyd Anderson. He finished second in the FHSAA Class 3A State Championships in the long jump (23' 0.5) while routinely putting up respectable numbers in the 100 meters (11.17 personal record) and high jump (6' 6.75 personal record).

UCF's 2018 recruiting class now stands at 12, four of whom are from Dade and Broward County.
