Knights host top football recruits

UCF's big Junior Day is scheduled for next month, but the staff got a head start in recruiting a couple of their biggest local targets for the Class of 2013.
A pair of area stars, Jones defensive end Devin Washington and West Orange linebacker/defensive end Corey Vereen, were guests of the coaching staff at Wednesday's basketball game against Marshall.

The pair are very high on UCF's defensive end board, which is a big priority considering they'll graduate Troy Davis, Toby Jackson and Cameron Henderson after this season.
In addition to taking in UCF's thrilling 67-60 win, the duo met a couple players and got a quick look at the football facilities.
Washington, who was interviewed by UCFSports.com earlier this week, currently holds offers from the Knights, Cincinnati, FIU, Ole Miss and Illinois.
"I really do like UCF's coaching staff," Washington said. "I have a real good relationship with Coach (Sean) Beckton. I just like the whole program they have over there. Academically, they have a great medical program. That's what I want to get into in college. They have a growing medical city and that's a big selling point for me. It's a great school with great academics. It's right down the street. My family could watch me play.
"I'm really keeping my eyes open and keeping all the schools in it, but UCF is definitely one of my top choices."
Washington tweeted the following after attending the basketball game:
@D_W5: "Enjoyed the UCF game! The atmosphere and hospitality was phenomenal!"
Vereen, who is being recruited by some schools as a linebacker, personally was offered by head coach George O'Leary during the visit. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder also has offers from Florida State, South Florida, Tennessee and Minnesota.
"I really liked seeing the weight room and the whole facility," Vereen said. "I feel I can better myself if I have those two. I really like the school on top of that. Academic wise, it's great. It's a great engineering school as well."
Stay tuned to UCFSports.com for the in-depth interview with Vereen, who spoke extensively about the trip and his recruiting plans for the year ahead.
UCF's Junior Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 24.
