Mayes still solid after speaking with Heupel and Shannon

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern defensive end Demetreius Mayes Jr. committed to UCF last May and said his commitment was still solid after speaking to new head coach Josh Heupel and defensive coordinator Randy Shannon.

"Randy Shannon was recruiting me while he was at Florida, so we already had a bond," Mayes said. "Coach Heup is excited about me and said he can't wait to coach me."

Mayes took his official visit in October for the East Carolina game. Prospects can take up to five official visits, but only one per school. Any future visit would have to be unofficial.

"I wish I could redo it," Mayes said.
