Plummer: UCF is a great place to be

Terrance Plummer was already a big fan of UCF so he didn't need much convincing when he took his official visit this past weekend. The linebacker from Orange Park (Fla.) already loved UCF's campus and his opinion went up even more after seeing the football facilities.

"I was already into UCF because two of my cousins attended the school," Plummer said. "They didn't play football or anything, but they went there and really enjoyed it. One of them graduated in 2008 and another graduated this winter. I've always been around UCF.

"I knew they had a beautiful campus, but I had never been to the football facilities or dorms, stuff like that. That was just a plus when I went there. I saw how close the dorms were to the facilities and how nice the indoor facility was. UCF is the only school in the state of Florida who has an indoor facility.

"Then their fan support. We got to go to a basketball game, it was just a game vs. Rice, and it was a pretty intense, packed game. It looked like a great place to be. The academics are great too-- UCF is No. 6 in the nation according to the BCS standings. It's a great place to be."

He committed to head coach George O'Leary at the conclusion of the visit.

"I said, 'Coach O'Leary, I've grinded it out for a while, but I think this is where I want to be.' They were happy I came on board. They said they're losing Derrick Hallman and a couple others. Four senior linebackers, so they said I have a great opportunity, if I do what I need to do, to play early. That's a plus. Everybody wants to play when they first come in."

Plummer could slide into Hallman's position at sam linebacker.

"They haven't decided yet because in high school I played all three," Plummer said. "But they did say they see me as a sam right now. I'm just going to do what they tell me to do. I'm going to work hard to try to get on the field."

Plummer was told he shares of a lot of the same qualities as Hallman, who was a four-year starter and team captain.

"Coach O'Leary told me I'm a contact player," Plummer said. "When I make contact, I run my hips through the player. That's what he told me he expects me to do when I come in. Do the same things Hallman did last year. He expects me to be that type of player-- play as a freshman, play all four years and then be a great senior leader."

Secondary coach Sean Beckton recruited Plummer.

"I love the coaching staff," Plummer said. "Coach O'Leary is a cool guy. He's a no-nonsense guy, but that's how a head coach should be. Coach Beckton is a good guy. Coach (John) Skladany is going to be my linebackers coach. For an older guy, he's got a lot of life in him."

UCF currently has a staff opening at defensive coordinator and that was discussed with the recruits.

"Coach O'Leary said he's had about 300 calls from people wanting to be defensive coordinator," Plummer said. "He's just going to take his time. He knows what he wants in a defensive coordiator. He's not going to rush it."

Plummer, who was hosted on the trip by Jordan Ozerities, said a couple other things about the program caught his eye.

"I didn't know they had such great fan support," Plummer said. "Their stadium was built in a way where they can add more seats. That was real good. I'm also glad they're Nike now. I'm very much a fan of Nike. I've never been an Adidas guy. It's always great wearing Nike."

Plummer, who is thinking about a business or marketing major, feels bigger and better things are on the horizon at UCF.

"They talked about how now they have that first big bowl win and just coming off winning Conference USA that things are just heading up," Plummer said. "They're possibly maybe going to the BIG EAST and they're dominating Conference USA while they're still in it. That's what they talked to me about, just trying to get better and moving up."

Plummer previously visited South Florida and Connecticut and also had offers from Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Southern Miss and Cincinnati.
