Shaquem Griffin expects some trash talk during UCF-USF

Proximity and familiarity is what makes a game into a rivalry.

UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin knows full well. He's a St. Petersburg native who grew up playing with several USF players, notably top Bulls wide receiver Rodney Adams.

"We still talk every once in a while," Griffin said. "We try to stay away from (trash talk) because you don't want to be doing that on social media. We save that for the phone calls. When we get to the field, I'm going to say a couple words to him."

The trio of Shaquem, Shaquill and Adams visited UCF several times on unofficial visits during their recruitment. Adams, who initially signed with Toledo, later transferred to USF where's become a big star. He has 51 receptions for 677 yards and five touchdowns.

Shaquem is also expecting a big cheering section at Raymond James Stadium.

"I might have 40 or 50 family there," Griffin said. "I have a cousin that will be there that's never been to a game. "It's going to be pretty exciting to be in that stadium and going against USF. Being a rivalry game, it's going to be a hard-fought game. Anybody can win. It comes down to who has the best game."
