UCF lands earliest commit ever

UCF's 2018 recruiting class is officially taking shape.

On Saturday, the Knights picked up their first commitment from B.J. Crim, a safety from Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard who pledged during an unofficial visit to campus. The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect was offered in January and recruited by defensive coordinator Erik Chinander.

Troy and Ohio were his other early offers, but he was receiving strong interest from the likes of Florida, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Iowa State, Tulane and Missouri.

As Vanguard's starting strong safety, Crim earned All-County honors with 48 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble.

Crim is the earliest commit ever for UCF. Running back Otis Anderson was the Knights' first commit in the 2017 cycle, pledging last March 17. The all-time record had been held by Class of 2010 linebacker Cody Ralston, who committed March 3 of his junior year.

Vanguard is the alma mater of UCF quarterback legend Daunte Culpepper, who played for the Knights from 1995-98 and made three Pro Bowls during his 11 seasons in the NFL.
