UCF is back to being considered among the top teams in its conference.
The Knights were picked by media members to finish second in the American Athletic Conference East Division, one spot behind USF. The rival Bulls were a unanimous selection to win the division and are a consensus favorite, garnering 26 of 30 votes, to win the entire league.
UCF and a predicted second-place East finish has been a common pick in the various preseason publications.
Defending league champion Temple was picked to finish third in the East, followed by Cincinnati, East Carolina and UConn. Temple (Geoff Collins), Cincinnati (Luke Fickell) and UConn (Randy Edsall) have new coaches this season, though Edsall previously coached the Huskies from 1999-2010.
In the West, Memphis received 22 of 30 first-place votes. UCF and the Tigers clash early in a week two game at Spectrum Stadium. Houston, in what will be their first year under new coach Major Applewhite, were picked second, followed by Navy, Tulsa, SMU and Tulane.
The division winners will meet in the American Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 2.
