Wilson wants to win championships at UCF

It was a weekend that D'erren Wilson will never forget.
On Friday, the Greenville (Tex.) wide receiver experienced his first plane ride. A couple days later he returned home as a Knight, committing to UCF at the conclusion of his official visit.

"I don't even like riding roller coasters," Wilson laughed when asked about that first flight. "We did drop once, so that was a little scary. The second flight home was much better though."
He was accompanied on the trip by his father.
"Once we got there, we met with all the coaches and the recruits there," Wilson said. "We had dinner and went off with our hosts. My host was Domenic Spencer. He told me he was real happy there. Right now I think he's the only one from Texas, so he was just saying if you come here I'll look out for you. He was real cool about everything."
Saturday was the busy day.
"We loaded up on the bus and went to the facility and ate breakfast there," Wilson said. "Then we toured the campus. We went into the student union, rec center, business building, talked about academics, just were walking around. We went by the reflection pond where they have the Spirit Splash. After that, we went back to the hotel to get some rest, then we came back to the locker room, tried on jerseys and walked around the stadium."
One of the highlight was meeting the players who will become his future teammates.
"Justin Holman, the quarterback, I talked to him for a little bit," Wilson said. "He's going to be a junior next year. He asked me, 'Can I throw the fade ball to you?' He was real cool. I met one of the freshman receivers, Tre'Quan Smith, and I talked to Jamiyus Pittman, a freshman defensive lineman, and the cornerback Kyle Gibson."
Wilson was sold on UCF not long after he arrived.
"I knew I wanted to go there on the Saturday," Wilson said. "That's when I really knew. Their graduation rate was a big reason and the chance I'll get to play early due to all the receivers leaving. It's in Orlando and it's beautiful down there. The weather is perfect. I like how they throw the ball. UCF is a winner, always winning conference championships. I really like that."
UCF entered the weekend with only one wide receiver commit, so it was imperative to close the deal on others considering the losses at that position. Wilson joined Tristan Payton as receivers who publicly committed on Sunday.
"I kind of knew Tristan was going to commit, just talking to him," Wilson said. "I was also talking a lot to (UCF quarterback commit) Bo Schneider a lot during the visit, texting him. He was talking to me before the visit, saying how I'm going to love the place. When I got there, everything he said was true."
Wilson also bonded with his future position coach, Sean Beckton.
"He was real cool," Wilson said. "He kept it straight with me, that's what I really liked. I feel like he's going to be a great coach for me. He's coached a lot of great players like Brandon Marshall. Coach Beckton told me the freshmen will have a great chance to play. They only have four receivers coming back and they take eight receivers to a game. He actually compared me to one of their receivers leaving, Rannell Hall."
The commitment took place on Sunday morning during his exit meeting with head coach George O'Leary.
"All of them were excited," Wilson said. "Coach O'Leary was really happy about it. He said he's going to send me workouts to do after signing day. He's going to come see me on Tuesday and talk to my mom."
Wilson was initially slated to visit UCF in December, but changed those plans when he decided to commit to SMU. He reconsidered that decision about a week ago, reopening his recruitment, and UCF and Texas Tech jumped right back into the picture. He was scheduled to visit Texas Tech next weekend, but that's no longer going to happen.
"I'm going to shut it down," he said.
What are his goals when he arrives in Orlando this summer?
