Danny White will be named UCF's Director of Athletics, multiple sources have told UCFSports.com. An official announcement is expected Thursday.
White, who currently holds the same post at Buffalo, emerged from last week's interviews as the clear frontrunner for the job. Regarded as a rising star in college administration, the 35-year-old White has a proven track record as a program builder and fundraiser, traits that will be important in his new position at UCF.
A 2002 graduate of Notre Dame, White holds a pair of master's degrees from Ohio and he's in the process of earning a PhD in higher education from Ole Miss, where he was senior associate AD from 2009-12. He was named Buffalo's AD in May 2012.
White grew up around college athletics. His father is Duke AD Kevin White, who previously held the same position at Notre Dame, Arizona State and Tulane. The elder White's first Division I AD job was at the University of Maine from 1987-91 where he worked with UCF President John Hitt.
White's brothers are also involved in college athletics. Michael is in his first year as head men's basketball coach at Florida. Brian has an administrative post at Army as associate athletic director for development.
In addition to the press conference, several meet and greets are being planned for Thursday, which is the same day UCF hosts East Carolina in a nationally televised ESPN game.
