UCF's pipeline to Virginia continues.
Josh Heupel and his staff have landed a commitment from Landon Woodson, a defensive end from Fredericksburg (Va.) Stafford who committed during a home visit Monday night and announced his decision early Tuesday.
He'll join fellow Virginians Dedrion Bacote, Anthony Roberson and Darriel Mack on UCF's roster next season.
Woodson was an immediate target of new defensive line coach Shane Burnham, who had previously recruited him while on staff at Rutgers. UConn hosted Woodson on a visit this past weekend while Maryland and Mississippi State were also involved late.
Last week, Woodson went into detail about his UCF visit. The academic and family aspects are what sold him.
"I know school is the main part of being a student-athlete," Woodson said. "Football is not the entire deal. It's going to have to be a school I'd want to go to and that's what I really liked about UCF. I really liked the academic support. I loved the players and coaches. It's a great camaraderie, like a loving brotherhood. I really like that. The coaches are really involved with the players."
Woodson was plagued by injury issues early in his career which likely kept him off the radar of many schools. He tore a meniscus as a freshman and then an ACL as a sophomore only to re-injure the same ACL as a junior. His senior year was his first full injury-free season and he didn't disappoint, making a name for himself defensively towards the end of the season. Being a very athletic 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, there's a sense UCF is getting a tremendous steal.
