1997. "Daunte's Inferno." Now a bonafide star, UCF quarterback Daunte Culpepper is at the front and center of all marketing campaigns.

Dante's Inferno (14th-century epic poem) is now "Daunte's Inferno" with Culpepper showcased in front of the flames with the catch phrase, "If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned!"

If you look closely, you can spot the autographs of Culpepper, Siaha Burley, Mark Nonsant, Mike Palmer, Mike Grant, Page Sessoms and others which were obtained at fan day.

After an opening slate of three hard-fought, close losses at Ole Miss, South Carolina and Nebraska, UCF registered some national publicity and one publication (may have been Sports Illustrated) called the Knights "the best 0-3 team in the nation."
