Heupel to visit Arizona QB

When the dead period lifts on Friday, UCF head coach Josh Heupel will be in Arizona to see one of his top quarterback targets: Brock Purdy of Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry.

Quarterback becomes an even bigger recruiting focus in the wake of backup Noah Vedral's decision to transfer back home to Nebraska. Junior-to-be McKenzie Milton should begin the 2018 season on Heisman Trophy watch lists, but the Knights have just one other scholarship quarterback on the roster, Darriel Mack, who will be a redshirt freshman.

Purdy just capped off a phenomenal senior season, passing for 4,405 yards and a state record 57 touchdowns while leading his team to the 6A state championship game.

Schools are taking notice. Purdy has been on UCF's for several weeks, picking up his official offer on Wednesday night. He has a visit lined up to Orlando next weekend, Jan. 19.

"I'm really excited about the (UCF) visit and have heard nothing but great things from Coach Heupel and the offense they run," Purdy said.

Purdy has spoken with Heupel over the phone and is looking forward to meeting him in person on Friday.

"He said he loves my leadership, ability to read the field and my accuracy," Purdy said.

Also in the mix is Boise State, where he will visit this weekend. Alabama and Kansas are also involved.
