Jalon Thompson hears 'Hometown Hero' pitch from UCF

Longtime UCF target Jalon Thompson returned to campus recently for another visit. This time, the Orlando-Olympia safety took in a spring practice.

"I really liked the tempo of the practice," Thompson said. "They get in and get out, get it done quick."

He always meets up with defensive coordinator Addison Williams, who has been recruiting him.

"We've got a real strong relationship and a good bond," Thompson said.

While Rivals lists Thompson as a safety, he could play anywhere.

"Coach Addi has said he likes my versatility to play multiple positions," Thompson said.

He added that he's heard plenty about becoming UCF's next "Hometown Hero." Thompson said he is very familiar with the local group of 2023 freshmen, particularly John Walker.

"It was cool seeing John Walker at practice," Thompson said. "We played against Osceola my sophomore year."

Thompson also attended UCF's home game with Georgia Tech last year.

"It was great," he said. "All the fans had great energy. It was very exciting."

What stands out about UCF?

"What I like the most is the relationships," Thompson said. "They're really straightforward and won't sugarcoat anything for you."

He also likes Gus Malzahn.

"He's a great guy," Thompson said.

UCF, Missouri, Maryland, Cincinnati and North Carolina are the schools he's hearing the most from right now.

"The main thing I'll be looking for is player growth, can they get players ready to play at the next level," Thompson said.

He hopes to have a commitment by the end of the summer.
