UCF lands Virginia QB

UCF got faster on Thursday.

Scott Frost and staff secured their third quarterback commitment from Darriel Mack Jr., a three-star prospect from Norfolk, Va.

Mack, who took an official visit this past weekend, announced his decision shortly after 1:40 p.m. during a pep rally at Norview High School.

UCF initially appeared set on taking two quarterbacks in this class - Marvin Washington and Noah Vedral have already committed - but with McKenzie Milton the only certain returning quarterback capable of running Frost's preferred offense, the decision was made to take an additional player.

Mack, who is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, has led Norview to a 6-1 record this season, completing 77 of 133 passes for 1,532 yards, 15 touchdowns and just one interception.

His other finalists were Maryland, Temple and West Virginia.

UCF is now up to 18 commitments in the Class of 2017.
