UCF's future football schedules are taking shape.
The Knights have announced a 2018-19 series with Pittsburgh that will see the Panthers visit Orlando on Sept. 29, 2018 with the return trip to Pennsylvania taking place on Sept. 21, 2019.
UCF and Pitt have met just once before - a 52-7 Panthers victory in 2006 at the Citrus Bowl. That was to be a home-and-home, but the return trip to Pittsburgh was postponed several times before ultimately being canceled earlier in the decade.
UCF does recruit the Pittsburgh area. Offensive lineman Tyler Hudanick, who was UCF's top blocker before a season-ending knee injury midway through this past season, hails from Harmony, about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. Mason Cholewa, a defensive line commit in UCF's 2017 class, lives in McKees Rocks, which is just a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
Former UCF offensive coordinator Tim Salem is on staff at Pittsburgh as tight ends coach. Quarterback Bo Schneider, who played at UCF as a true freshman in 2015, transferred to Pitt last summer. Like many schools, Pittsburgh heavily recruits Florida. Nine players on their 2016 roster hail from the Sunsine State along with six of their current 2017 commitments.
In 2018, the Knights also host FAU and will travel to North Carolina. The 2019 schedule includes a road date at FAU and a home game against Stanford. That leaves one spot available in both years, presumably for a road game in 2018 and a home game in 2019, unless UCF decides they want to host seven games in 2018.
The full 2017 schedule is expected to be released in the next month.
