Scott Frost has announced three new additions to his inaugural coaching staff.
Confirming what was reported on Monday, Erik Chinander will be his defensive coordinator. The Oregon outside linebackers coach previously coached alongside Frost at Northern Iowa before two stints in Eugene. He spent the 2013 season as an assistant defensive line coach with Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I want to surround myself at UCF with people of great character who are also very intelligent," Frost said in a press release. "Erik is one of the highest character people I know and one of the most intelligent coaches I've ever been around," said Frost. "He's an incredible recruiter and a huge asset to our program."
Greg Austin will serve as offensive line coach. The former Nebraska player is coming from the Eagles where he too worked under Kelly for the past three seasons, assisting with the offensive line. In a path that mirrors Chinander, Austin too was previously an Oregon graduate assistant under Kelly. Austin earned a master's degree in sports management from UCF and worked at Disney's Wide World of Sports before pursuing coaching in 2010.
"Greg is an amazing person to be around, and has unbelievable work relationships with his players," Frost said in a release. "It's vital for me to have an offensive line coach who understands our offensive system. His experience at Oregon and the Philadelphia Eagles is a perfect fit for what I'm trying to accomplish on the offensive side of the ball."
Marcus Castro-Walker, who previously led Arizona State's recruiting efforts as Director of Player Personnel, has bee named Director of Player Development. A former linebacker at Eastern Washington, Castro-Walker earned a master's from Arizona State and was an academic coach prior to his two years in the recruiting office.
