Today is a pivotal day for the future of UCF athletics.
A group of representatives from UCF, led by President John Hitt and Director of Athletics Danny White, will meet with the Big 12 at a Dallas hotel for their face-to-face pitch, multiple sources told UCFSports.com.
UCF is one of 11 expansion hopefuls that made the league's initial cut, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com. The others include Air Force, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado State, UConn, Houston, Rice, USF, SMU and Tulane.
School presentations were expected to last through the end of the week. Multiple connected Houston sources, including Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle and Mark Berman of Fox 26, reported the Cougars presented Wednesday. The Hartford Courant and Mark Blaudschun of TMGCollegeSports.com have indicated UConn goes Thursday.
It remains unclear whether the Big 12 will expand by two or four schools or even will expand at all. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby has said he hopes for clarity by the time league presidents reconvene for their Oct. 17 board meeting.
